Urban Earth Oven

I think the tractor trailer tire used as a foundation is a very cool idea as long as there's sufficient insulation under the floor. Without the insulation the tire could become molten and would release some very unpleasant aromas.

I am glad you like the tire idea.
If you look close, there is over a foot of solid cob over the actual tire before the floor starts. I then filled the interior with crushed rock and before I made my 4" sand pit I layer down multiple layers of foil to retain the heat. You would have to fire that oven for a very, very, very, long time before that tire even felt heat and then you would have to fire it for a lot longer for the tire to get hot to get hot let alone melt. Honestly, I think the oven would melt before the tire. But, for those of you who plan on using a rammed tire, make sure to insulate between the tire and your floor!

My two cents!
