Oven By The Pond

April 1, 2012
I've just started work on a new oven by our pond, and I'll try to document the various stages of construction. I think this one will be constructed of red clay bricks because I have lots of them. Fire brick would be better, but for an oven that will only be used infrequently, then I don't think it will matter very much. Another reason for brick is that some of the folks who might be using it have little wood-fired oven experience, and bricks rather than mud would be a lot more durable. If one isn't careful, loading the oven with firewood and using a metal peel cause a certain amount of damage.
