Safe Passage Bread Ovens
In January of 2006, Pat Manley designed two wood-fired bread ovens for the humanitarian organization, Safe Passage. Safe Passage was founded by Hanley Denning because she wanted to do something for the children who lived by the sprawling and dangerous Guatemala City dump, and she thought the ovens would be a wonderful way to help the children learn some baking skills.
Along with a group of volunteers, Pat supervised the construction of the ovens, also in January of 2006.
To see a slide show of the construction process and life around the dump, watch this You Tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ifgimXytjg&feature=channel_page
