The Tandoor

The tandoor is a vertical type oven that is ubiquitous in many parts of the world, particularly India and the Middle East. It is primarily used for making flat breads.  In the New York Times today there's a story about an American who is manufacturing tandoors in the United States. For me, I'll stay with my traditional front loading mud oven.

The ones I have seen are much larger, and the pancake shaped dough is slapped onto the walls on the inside.
